Shortening long urls (a suggestion)

Subject: Shortening long urls (a suggestion)
I suggest BlackBoard to shorten long urls with "..." (3 dots) in the middle of the long url.

For example:
http://blackboard.unclassified.de/forum.php?req=main&i…

Will automatically become:
http://blackboard.unclassified.de/...&threadunread_time=1096911213

Isn't that neat? :-)

Use the [url] tags for this. Automatic URL detection doesn't have it in yet. But it might have it one day when the ABBC parser does all the tricky things that are now handled separately by regular expression replacements outside the normal parser loop.

This is what will improve then: (may no be complete)
  • URL detection, with shortening
  • Search term highlighting
  • Special syntax like /italics/ that still mess up code blocks
  • Auto-lists (lines beginning with *, **...) like in Wikis or Blogs
