Spam Posts by bots?

Subject: Spam Posts by bots?
I have non registered posts (+CAPTCHA) enabled and receive spam links that are automatically added to the board every few days.

Any idea what I could do to prevent this? Is this a bug in the board or a config issue?

Do you have the spam filter plug-in installed? It may help a little bit with those link-only posts. But there's no guarantee.

For now, I have increased the required subject length.
In the long run only an improved captcha may help.
The one in UNB is to easy to decode with OCR.
Maybe use a handwriting font or similar.
A vertical offset between letters is also much more secure.

After enabling guest posting on my forum I'm seeing a similar problem.

I know on another (non-UNB) forum I admin I was able to kill all the auto-spam with a simple question.  "What's the name of this forum?" for example.  The guest couldn't post until they answered it correctly, and robots and foreign spammers have no idea what to do. 

Haven't looking into a similar option with UNB yet, but I will.

I already have two other versions of a CAPTCHA image code finished. One was supposed to go into UNB2 and is used in a guestbook. The guestbook also receives a bit spam every now and then. But the CAPTCHA code seems to be entered by a human in that case because there was not a single failure with that (I'm logging those). See it at http://unclassified.de/tmp/captcha2/

Could you please play a bit with them and tell me what you think of it?

Do they both work now with any version of the GD library?

Probably not. But you can add that function to your compatibility.lib.php to make your PHP compatible. ;)
