Then I seem to have a problem :o
I can select UTF-8 after opening, but not with the opening itself.

My headers sometimes look like this:
  1. // Encoding : UTF-8 (without BOM) (auto-detect: °°°°°)

Ok. I downloaded Notepad++ (although I very much likes the interface of PSPad :( It doesn't seem to work very well with this). And after some conversions with both Notepad++ ánd PSPad, I now have the file in Notepad++ with the headers with only the 'circels' :)

I will do the changes with the quotation marks in Notepad now, this evening or tomorrow and post it here. Thanks for the help Yves!

Subject: done! ... I hope
Ok, I sent an email to a big national newspaper, also pretty good one too. I asked about how quotation marks should be used in Dutch, and how they use them. They replied to me today, great :)

They said there was much written about how the quotation marks should be used in Dutch, and there wasn't any consensus about it. How they use it is as follows:
„ text ” for quotes and most of the words,
and ' text ' for unknown words and/or sarcastic meaning.

So that is what I tried to use in the translation now. I think I got everything, and also did some corrections to the translation.
I post here all the translated files for language and plugins in a .zip file.

I want to try this translation out in a running forum, to see if I can find any corrections, but those would only be small things, I translated pretty carefully.
So, I attach it here allready, it is good enough to use. And in a few days (won't have many time the next days) I'll try to test it in a board and maybe send a corrected version.

Oops.. forgot to read the changelog.. it is to late allready..
Anyway, I checked the changes and changed them in the translation too, so here a new .zip with these changes included :)

Thank you for your efforts on this. I couldn't imagine something like quotation marks isn't clearly defined in an official language specification...

I'll check this translation and try to upload it in this forum so that more users can see and test it.

Sorry, language files don't work. They contain a BOM at their beginning that will be treated as output by PHP and thus PHP cannot send any headers like cookies afterwards. Please remove that BOM from the files to make them work. See the translation FAQ for details.

Hmm, I thought I corrected this..
I opened the files with Notepad++, convert it to UTF-8, saved, opened again. Then there were only the circles, not the "A's", so I assume it was without BOM, right?

I opened the files on linux, with pico. I can indeed see the chars (I assume they are the BOM) at the beginning of the file. I can also edit them away, but when opening them again with Notepad++ on my Windows machine, they are ASCII formatted and the "A's" are back again. This process repeats itself..

Do you have any idea how I can get these chars out?

BOM and UTF8 are two totally different things. UTF8 is the way how characters are encoded. This affects the byte mapping of each symbol. BOM is a marker that is placed at the beginning of the file to tell which encoding was used for the file contents. The translation FAQ holds a link to an explanation about that BOM.

Pico is a shell editor, right? I have no idea about shell and Unicode. I only see on my PowerBook that it doesn't work.

You need to use an editor that lets you save the files in UTF8 encoding but without placing that BOM at the beginning of the file. I'm trying to write a conversion programme (for Windows) to do this, but all ghosts are against me. First iconv didn't want to be compiled in Visual Studio, now I'm using Unicode.org's mapping tables and the ascii-to-utf code from UNB (written in PHP, but it's quite short). I'm still over it but it looks as if I'll head over to VS.NET as I can't get that Drag&Drop thing to work in the old version.

A lot of shell editors are capable of reading/writing in UTF-8.

The editor I always use is Vim. Because Vim in it's standard edition is quite difficult to understand, I installed Cream (which is a Vim replacement). Another advantage of Vim is that you can use it on virtually every operation system (Win, Lin, Mac, Solaris, FreeBSD etc). You can use it in the shell or "windowed".

So far my "Vim commercial". ;-)

I get pretty tired about these BOM :( I know why it is important (and just nececary), but it isn't easy..
Anyway, I tried another editor today, Notepad2 (linked on your useful apps page). I can save in a format UTF-8 with signature and just UTF-8 (thus without the signature). I think they mean the BOM with this, but I'm not very sure.. With the pico (shell indeed) I can't see those chars at the beginning anymore.
I attached it here, can you check this for one file? If it is correct I can edit the other one's too.

Yes, this one looks good.

The BOM is also called signature or cookie.

I'm getting along very well with my file conversion tool. It can already convert between UTF-8 and ISO-8859-1. Now I only found out that ISO-8859-1 is not equal to Windows-1252 (Western). But unicode.org also provides mappings for that. BOM and line endings support will also follow. Then you can just drop files or directories in it and have them converted automatically.

Just out of curiosity: I think I can remember having seen Dutch files with a lot of accented characters, mostly é I think, in them. Now there's almost none of them. Why is this?

Ok, then I will convert the other files too like this :)

Indeed, Dutch uses much words with é. One example, translated to English: There is only óne person watching.
one meaning 1, in Dutch een, and so on to één.
Hope you understand this a bit :)
Another one is Private, which we translate into Privé.

During translating I didn't find much of these strings, but I search for some things like Privé.
