Subject: Moved this forum to a new database server
Hi folks,
please excuse the outage this evening, I was moving this board to another MySQL server and had some trouble with it. Not only is 100,000 rows (or alternatively 4 MB) too much for phpMyAdmin to dump it, I also figured out that I didn't remember my own board password anymore (thanks to login cookies and browsers storing passwords) and mixed up MySQL usernames a bit while struggling with my low upstream bandwidth...
Well, here we are back again, this time on a MySQL 5.0 server with full Unicode support on the back end. It took me some time adjusting the character set for all tables and columns separately. It looks as if it works fine, please report any remaining errors to me, should there be any.
Of course, this change on the backend doesn't mean a lot to you users. But since I found out that MySQL 4.0 is totally unsupported for a while already, I decided to move everything to the other MySQL server which is already running in parallel on my server. (I skipped the 4.1 version.) And who knows, maybe it's faster or something...
[Update]
Okay, I found one already. Anything that doesn't fit in the latin1 character set got lost in the conversion process. Since this only seems to affect the playground forum, I'm not going to get it back.
