Today I've fixed a couple of outstanding issues for the upcoming version 1.6.4. They're available as a new development version. Be warned that some translation and template files have been changed, so your design or translation (other than German or English) may not reflect the changes or be inconsistent at the places I've been working on.

Download page: http://newsboard.unclassified.de/download

Update: This is also a common call to all of you who maintain UNB translations. There's been a lot of time since the last "stable" release of UNB and quite some text snippets were added or changed to reflect the changes to the user interface. Generally, older translations can still be used with a newer UNB version, but where texts were changed, they may be different from the two primary translations, and where new texts were added there could remain a blank area to the user. It would be nice if we could have updated translation files for version 1.6.4 then.

As a side note: We're soon going to see a Simplified Chinese translation for the latest UNB version here. I've seen a pre-release version for UNB 20070327-dev and it looks interesting so far. :D (As you could have imagined, I don't understand a word of it. Not a single pen stroke... But I'm sure there's many of you who do.)

Update: Simplified Chinese (zh_CN) is now available for download on the UNB website!

Version unb.devel.20070803 is out today. I consider this 1.6.4.rc.2, I couldn't find any more tasks I wanted to do until version 1.6.4. See the change log for details. If no problems arise with the new Jabber library, version 1.6.4 isn't long from now. This time it's real... ;)

Version unb.devel.20070809 only fixes a problem with the uniqueness of usernames when renaming users. I'm still counting down the days for the release of 1.6.4. (But for my own safety, I won't tell you the current counter... :D)

Since you've already replaced the jabber backend, could you also consider an update of the feedcreator class?  This would add ATOM 1.0 support...

I'd like to upgrade the FeedCreator thing but it seems to be dead and unavailable.

Also, I need to defer the release of UNB 1.6.4 by a short time because the 2nd Jabber client library wasn't any better than the 1st one. There's a 3rd one available now for testing. We'll see if it gets better. If not then so be it in 1.6.4.

The original project is dead, yes.  That's why I provided a link to an updated feedcreator class (http://feedcreator.org).  AFAICS from the sourceforge tracker, there is still some active development.  I haven't yet done a SVN checkout, however.

I was already referring to that link, feedcreator.org. Latest version is almost two years old and the linked file is not found, with no alternatives visible. I have my own ATOM creator class, but it has a different API. For future projects I'll probably only use that class and drop RSS support, like it is in my web laboratory for example.

Thank you, I'm checking it out now. This is not an official version, is it?

I was just working on the integration of the 3rd Jabber library but it doesn't look too good. Right now it does nothing at all. I've contacted the author to ask what's wrong.

Update: FeedCreator is now updated. But you'll need to change the type to 'ATOM' for yourself if you want to use it. Since the real advantages of ATOM (declaring the content type) can only be used in a way that breaks 'RSS2.0' compatibility, I'm not going to use it by default.

It is official (note that upstream has changed).  The link is almost identical to that on feedcreator.org...

1.8dev is in SVN.  However, my checkout attempts have not succeeded yet...

Reply from the Jabber class author: TLS is not supported. That explains why it doesn't work. So now, there is not a single PHP Jabber client library available that effectively supports TLS. I'm now going to revert to option #2 (which is the one that is currently available in the development release) and disable TLS support in UNB. You won't be able to use Google Talk with UNB then. So the last two remaining tasks for 1.6.4 are closed and there haven't been major issues with the RC within the last two weeks or so. I'm going to prepare the release of UNB version 1.6.4 for the weekend then. Be prepared for the (not so huge) impact... :D Finally...

I could check out the SVN code without problems. And there's again a whole lot of changes to the 1.7.2-ppt version... But I doubt that they are relevant to what UNB does.

Ok, I just tried the SVN Browser and (falsely) extrapolated to any SVN access.

AFAI[R|CS], 1.8-dev contains lots of bug fixes of the new upstream.  1.7.2-ppt had some rough edges for ATOM 1.0, so, I would prefer 1.8-dev :-)

Okay, I've updated to the latest SVN version from today. New "stable-series" UNB release should be out tomorrow, too.
