Subject: Need a new name!
Hi folks,
I have just received a letter from a lawyer representing the company Blackboard Inc., Washington DC, USA, that is the owner of the name "Blackboard" in several countries. They kindly let me know that I cannot use that name for my bulletin board software and I need to find another one until the end of the year. I will abide by the law and rename BlackBoard to something else in the next weeks.
We had a similar discussion about another name already, because some people didn't really like it. Now we're forced to find something else. Since my limited creativity may lead to strange results, I'm asking all BlackBoard users to help me with this. I have the following ideas about the new name in my mind:
I thought about a Greek or Latin word, or two of them, they sound good, can have meanings most people won't understand
(incl. me
) and should be more rare then common English words which makes it more unique on the web.
Remember that BlackBoard is some kind of "open discussion web board". It's open-source, PHP-based and claims to be intuitive to use and secure in operation. I greatly hope that some of you have interesting ideas, I count on you!
Deutsche Zusammenfassung:

Since my limited creativity may lead to strange results, I'm asking all BlackBoard users to help me with this. I have the following ideas about the new name in my mind:
- It MUST be free of claims, so it must not be registered as a name, trademark or whatever else.
- It SHOULD be easily remindable and pronounceable in most languages, but English would be OK, too.
- It SHOULD be easy to find in search engines, so entering that name alone should ideally lead to this website within the first some results.
