This is nice, but I think there's not much point in the subject line if it's not displayed by default. Possibly switch the date and subject around? Other than that I think the "Antworten Zitieren Andern Entfernen" stuff should be iconic.. I suppose it could be so the labels appear alongside the icons when it's expanded.
[Image: http://newsboard.unclassified.de/img/v16/forum1.png]
Eh, I prefer the current layout, it's more compact and orderly. Are you sure you're not just trying to abolish tables alltogether? Sorry, but it kind of looks like that.

1) Why should I display a subject line where is no subject at all? Of course, there will be displayed a subject where one is set. It's in bold font so it'll be even more visible than now. I often get confused when people start their sentence in the subject and continue it in the post.

2) This layout is a lot more flexible than the tables layout. I can mix the views as I like. Forums include subforums (in an arbitrary nesting level, as requested before) and those can include the latest 10 topics again, i.e.

But as we now have HTML templates, you can of course create your own design, if you like. If you prefer the old layout, I can give you some template files that still show the old layout. They're about half complete, the other stuff that's missing wasn't ported into templates but written from scratch. The forums/threads/users list and some other small pages are still present in the old layout on my disk. But it'll be a lot of work to bring them into a usable form... So I won't do that.

Hi guys,

I am really looking toward this release. It seems to be a milestone in the development og UNB :finger:

But to be honest I am soooo dissapointed  ;-)  I would  LOVE  to have the multiple attachment function in the next release, but the roadmap says not before 1.7   8-(  8-(

But even until now the software is great! Keep on rocking!

I'm sorry to tell you I'm working on this alone and in my free time only. But I'd be happy to receive patches for something that's listed on the roadmap and in the bug tracker. Right now this is a bit hard since the current code is not publically available (because it just doesn't work very well yet) but maybe later then. ;)

For those who are interested in statistics: My little self-hacked script says "effective 23901 lines in 101 files" about the current source code.

I get a lot of work done these days. The template-based design is close to finished. Remaining tasks are new Admin CP and improved ABBC parser. Details can be found in the bug tracker.

The search term highlighting is almost complete. If I needed to make a production release right now, I could break it down to a stable version already. Still improving it though.

And here's another screenshot of the 1.6 design. It shows a part of the user control panel, where one can enter his contact information. The main idea was to make the number of contact types variable. There's a thread about a Skype field mod on this forum, for example. The description text says, you can only specify each contact type once, this is the part that will change in future versions. But as I was redesigning it all, I already used the new layout for this.

[Image: http://newsboard.unclassified.de/img/v16/cp1.png]

PS: Using <table>s for situations like this. ;) I know tables are not evil in general. I've read some articles about it. I do use tables where appropriate, but I try to avoid them for page layouting that can't be done otherwise. Other boards tend to use 5 nested tables or more, Firefox' WebDesigner extension can show this very impressingly.

Nein, Skype hab ich derzeit noch nicht vorgesehen. Damit räum ich dann in einer späteren Version auf.

(UNB 1.6 will not come with a Skype field by default, I'll clean up with this later.)

Minor update to the roadmap. An important exam is coming closer and I'm currently expecting to have UNB 1.6 RC1 ready for the public by the end of September. Of course this may still vary... (But notice? The range is getting shorter! :cheesy:) And I'm still discovering little bugs every now and then that I want to save you from. :)

These are also bugs that I would like to help fixing :-D so is there a newer version than unb-1.5.4-dev-20050702a.zip available? (and can you make one available if not :))

No and RC1 will be the next public release only. There's no AdminCP at all yet so you won't have a lot fun with it anyway... I don't want to give you a half forum... :/ At least not publically, there will be people bugging me why it's incomplete...

I still recommend you to use a version controll system like Subversion. It's easy to use, I've written an explanation some time ago (in German only, sorry): http://igels.net/subversion - There are of course GUI tools (For windows, I recommend http://tortoisesvn.tigris.org/ ), but I explaint the command line tool. But the principle is the same!

Today there's more news about version 1.6. I have completed the Admin Control Panel, now it features everything that's required to run and configure the board. I have decided to implement the more advanced parts of it as plug-ins, these are the ACL editor, the groups editor and all the other items from the current "Admin's Tools" menu. The ACL editor and groups editor are now complete, the other plug-ins will be ready after the release of RC 1. The ACL editor reflects the changes in the default user groups. There's a separate group for guests which should make the ACL easier to handle. Also the editor form itself and the representation of access rules have been improved so that you should understand them more quickly.

Since we now have more plug-ins to manage, the plug-ins controls have moved into the ACP. Here's what it looks like:

[Image: http://newsboard.unclassified.de/img/v16/plugins.png]

And this is the configuration page for the wordfilter plug-in:

[Image: http://newsboard.unclassified.de/img/v16/pluginsconf.png]

With these new features, UNB 1.6 RC 1 is pretty much complete. The only thing that's still missing is the English translation. This is what I'm going to do next. I'm not sure if I can do that in September still, but from 1st October on I'll have some free days.
