Subject: UNB 1.6 RC 3 released
Hello everybody,
here it is, the third release candidate of the Unclassified NewsBoard. Ok, the previous two were not much of real candidates, but this one is. A lot has changed since RC 2 again, all of the reported bugs should be fixed and everything should work fine now. I hope that many of you can prove this is right. This version now also includes two more admin plug-ins that some of you have already missed since UNB 1.5.3: The log viewer and the database check. I haven't started with the other three planned plug-ins (inactive users, avatars overview, database dump). Maybe I will still do the first one, but I certainly won't do the last one. There have been a lot of problems with the created database dumps so I think it's better to use the same application for the dump as you would then for a restore (phpMyAdmin or MySQL Administrator).
What is a database check tool good for? Right, find errors. And that's what it did. So the only outstanding bug in RC 3 is that the fast reply post editor generates wrong reply-to post IDs (it uses the post number on the page instead of the unique database ID). This isn't a big problem, this reply-to ID is not yet used anyway, it was planned for a threaded view which we won't get in the near future. If you have a lot of "invalid reply-to reference" errors in your database, you can safely either ignore or repair them.

If nothing really bad happens now, I expect the final version of UNB 1.6 to be released not after mid November 2005. After that, I'll need a little break, care more about university again, do some plans and design things before I can continue with the work on UNB 1.7.
