I have tried the archive from the initial post, as there's nothing newer I could find. It runs on my current development version, but shows strange layout for web link forum items. There's not much difference I could find. The font is a little smaller, that's a single config.php change. The rest looks identical to the original Modern design. I tested it with Firefox. Opera 9.01 is known to have problems with valid UNB XHTML code, let's wait for a newer version. But Modern2 is a little behind the current development: it shows inconsistent font sizes in non-XHTML mode (which will be the factory default in the future) and the current design has been improved for IE7 compatibility. This and some other minor changes (as I could see them in a comparison) has not yet been updated in Modern2. So if modern2 doesn't work fou you, you probably wouldn't want to put too much effort in it to make it work.

Just for the heck of it, I went on over to the forums in Konqueror -- I was using Linux at the time -- and, guess what!  It didn't work there either!  Something's wrong somewhere either on my side or with the theme itself, but per Yves' suggestion, I won't worry about it.
